There are two main trails to the top of Timpanogos, one of the most popular hiking destinations in Utah. This is the Mount Timpanogos via Timpooneke Trail to the towering summit of Mt. Timpanogos. This challenging trail boasts beautiful wildflowers, as well as opportunities to spot wildlife. The trail can be completed as a long, strenuous day trip, though some decide to break it into a multi-day trip. The trail begins from the Timpooneke trailhead. The trailhead is close to the Timpooneke campground, a great option to spend the night before tackling this difficult climb. From the trailhead, the trail continues along the south fork river, by Scout Falls, and up into Timpanogos Basin. Some of the switchbacks can be long and arduous, amounting to significant elevation gain. When you reach the saddle, the trail gets difficult, you may need to scramble and rock climb, and the conditions can be cold and windy. From the saddle it isn’t too far until you reach the summit of Mount Timpanogos. From here you will have great views of Utah Lake, Provo Canyon, and Emerald Lake.
